One Full Day of Fitting Fun
Spend the day learning the art of fitting garments with me. Whether it be a pair of pants or jeans or a top we will be working with my Efficient Work Flow Fitting Process. If you will be working on a shirt pattern, we will be starting at the top of the pattern to fit the upper back, neck, chest and shoulder first. Fitting this area first will allow you to accurately fit everything below it – without all the circling around.
After the bodice is fitting properly, we will fit the sleeves into the armhole as well as making sure it fits your arm. A copy of the Efficient Work Flow for Bodice Fitting Workbook is included with registration. You can work with the Perfectly Fitted Shirt – Women’s Sizes / Perfectly Fitted Shirt – Misses’ Sizes or bring the pattern and muslin (if you have one) for the top you have in progress. I will have muslin to make a new muslin if necessary. You will leave class with the tools and confidence to fit any shirt pattern.
If you are making pants, we will be using my Efficient Work Flow for Pants Fitting method. This method starts with customizing the pattern to your shape with body specific adjustments you may need. Then we will prep the pattern pieces by adding fitting allowances to the side and inseams and above the waistline. Using the basic steps from Top Down Center Out (as described by R. Collins in Threads Magazine Issue #218) we will balance the front/back leg to get the fabric to drape properly from the waist. Balancing the leg may or may not get the crotch into the properly position. If the pattern crotch shape is not agreeing with your shape, we will use traditional pants fitting methods to fine-tune the position of the crotch to get it just right.
To fine-tune the fit of the pattern, we’ll transfer all the adjustments made to the single leg muslin to your paper pattern pieces and cut out the second leg to sew a full muslin. Patterns and fabric to make your first muslin are included with registration. If you’re bringing your own pattern to work with, we will start where you are in your fitting adventure. The fabric to make a new muslin is included with the class.
If you would like to work with one of my patterns, you have the choice of working with the Sorcha Classic Slim Trousers pattern or the Stretch Jeans Made Easy pattern. You will leave class with the tools and confidence to fit and pants or jeans.
