Before creating your masterpiece, we ask that you follow a few guidelines:
- All prayer shawls must be newly created and pre-washed
- Please use the patterns provided. We will be making deliveries to recipients at one time. Therefore, it is important that the shawls are consistent in size and shape.
- Please take time to weave in your ends so they are secure & not noticeable.

My favorite thing about starting a new project is picking out the yarn! For these prayer shawls, you will need two strands of Worsted Weight Yarn or one strand of Chunky Weight Yarn. Choose soft, easy care yarn that can be washed and dried. Solid color yarns are the best choice. If you are crocheting an item, you will use worsted weight yarn, single stranded.
Please stay away from yarns that have texture or added fibers (glittery, metallic, confetti like or hairy texture) as Alzheimer’s patients have a tendency to pick or fiddle with things.
Knitting patterns recommend size 13 needles. This is a large size needle with a purpose. Knitting on a larger needle will create a light airy “fabric” resulting in a comforting Prayer Shawl that does not feel heavy. Keep that in mind when choosing your needle size. If you feel you need to go down a size because it is looking too loose, maybe knit a good sized sample in pattern to have a better idea of the look and drape. This would be a good time to check your gauge.
