Hey Everyone. Today I thought I would give you a peek at how I get my To Do List done. I have a lot going on… new patterns, hands-on workshops, kits to make, on-line class questions, YouTube Videos, Fabulous Fit Fridays…. and it goes on and on. In the past, I’ve struggled with organizing my time effectively. I used to get really hung up on making lists. Then I would get frustrated because I could never finish a list.
Then one day, I started to keep track of what I was doing instead of making a list. In my head I knew I had to get a few things done so I marked the time and what I was doing on a note pad. After doing this for a week or so I realized that it was a great way to keep me on point and it made me accountable to myself. Since then I’ve fine tuned my process. Now I work in an XL Lilly Pulitzer Diary (because I like the design of the pages). Below you can see one of the weeks I was in Florida.
To start my Month, I do make a “Master To Do List”. I put in on the Month View Page. Here you can see what I have planned for March.
I also put any appointments and hands-on workshops in my Month View. You can see I’m teaching at Stitches United this month 🙂 Then I work from this master list one week at a time. At the beginning of the week I write my “To Do List” in the upper right hand corner of the 2-page week. I only put the things I have to do that week and I try to limit this list to 5 or 6 things.
Then the “Do” happens. Each day I mark the time down and start working. I consult my “To Dos” in the upper right hand corner. A typical day looks like this…
If I take time to go to the gym or run errands, I include that in my time stamped accounting. At the end of the week, I can look back to see how effective I was a getting things done. I’m not going to lie, some weeks are better than others. But, for the most part, I think this method of organizing my time and To Do List has really helped me get more done.
Does anyone have an amazing way to keep their schedule? Love to hear about it!
