What’s Up This Week at J Stern Designs: Stitches’ Events Were Not Just For Fiber Artists… They Were For Sewers Too

Hi Everyone,

This week I have a pretty heavy topic to share with you.   On Monday, Stitches Events announced that they were going out of business and filing for bankruptcy.    Their official statement was; “The company is officially in the process of being dissolved,” the statement says. “Per our bankruptcy lawyer’s instructions, all our accounts have been closed, and all our future Stitches events and projects have been cancelled.”    Even though I’ve been teaching sewing classes for them since 2017, I was just as shocked as I’m sure everyone else is.  I have so many wonderful memories of teaching at both live and zoom classes with stitches.   I’ve made friends with the wonderful staff at Stitches as well as other teachers and students.   I’m really going to miss teaching at these events and having the opportunity to catch up with them.

Personally, my little sewing business has taken a hit.  I haven’t been paid for my April Stitches at Home class, and now it’s obvious that I won’t be paid for the May class either.   I also feel bad for all the other teachers, vendors and students who have been negatively affected by this loss.   I have a little inkling about how the students who may have registered for an upcoming event are feeling.  I registered for,  and was super excited to take a crochet class during the June Stitches at Home.   This got me thinking about the classes I had on my schedule to teach with Stitches and the students who are already signed up to attend them. These classes were originally Zoom in June or in-person at Stitches Boutique in August.

I’ve decided that I’m going to teach these classes to the students who are signed up with Stitches Events via Zoom and offer them to anyone else who would like to join us.  I’m also starting a Facebook Group to support the students who took my April and May Stitches Classes because their student dashboards are gone.  This is where you can ask questions, post photos and I’ll be there to help you if you get stuck!

Please reach out to me if you signed up for a Stitches Expo June or Stitches Boutique Class so I can send you the Zoom Information for the class.  I have no way of knowing who has signed up already.  Having something “to do” to help the situation makes me feel better.   I’m looking forward to teaching these classes and helping my students anyway I can!
